Understanding grief & loss
Loss can change
the shape of a day.
Sometimes it is the moments you expect. Sometimes it is an ordinary sound, a familiar place, or reaching for the phone.
Grief can follow a death, the end of a relationship, or another loss that changes what feels familiar. You might be missing a person, a part of your life, or a future you thought you would have.
There is no single sequence you need to follow. Sadness, anger, numbness, relief, and moments of warmth can sit alongside one another. Your relationships, culture, beliefs, and circumstances all matter to how the experience feels for you.
You do not have to measure your loss against anyone else’s to ask for support.

A place to be heard.
Support for what you carry.
We listen to what this loss means to you and how it is affecting your life. Together, we can make space for your experience and consider what support feels useful now.
Book a free consultationSpeak about what matters.
Share memories, questions, or feelings you have not had room to express. You can choose what to bring and how much to say.
Make room for the complicated parts.
Explore mixed feelings, unfinished conversations, or pressure from others about how you should grieve. We can hold space for what does not fit a simple story.
Find support in the everyday.
Consider your needs around rest, responsibilities, connection, and time alone. We can talk through difficult dates, gatherings, or moments when the absence feels especially present.
Honour what you want to carry with you.
Explore ways of remembering or staying connected that fit your values and beliefs, if that feels right to you. There is no required ritual or expectation to find meaning before you are ready.
Grief & loss FAQ
A little more clarity
before you begin.
A few answers to help you consider the next step, at your own pace.
Is grief support only for the death of someone close?
No. You can also bring the loss of a relationship, a pet, a role, your health, or a future you had imagined. We can discuss what the loss means to you and whether this support fits what you need.
Is it too soon or too late to seek support?
You can reach out when you want support, whether the loss is recent or happened some time ago. You do not need to wait for a particular point or explain why it still matters. A consultation gives you space to consider the fit.
What if I feel numb, angry, or relieved?
People can experience grief in many different ways. You may feel several things at once, or find it difficult to identify a feeling at all. There is space to talk about your experience without having to make it match someone else’s expectations.
Will therapy ask me to let go or move on?
We will explore what matters to you, including your memories, relationships, beliefs, and ways of remembering. The work can make room for what you have lost alongside the needs of your everyday life. You can discuss what feels helpful and what does not.
What if I cannot talk about everything yet?
You do not have to tell the whole story in the first session. We can begin with how your days have been, what feels difficult right now, or what you would like your therapist to understand. You can ask questions and set the pace together.
Can I access this support virtually in Ontario?
Yes. Stoneglass offers virtual psychotherapy across Ontario. A free 15–20 minute phone consultation is a chance to discuss fit, availability, fees, and whether virtual sessions work for you.
