Understanding life transitions
Between what was
and what comes next.
A change can make sense on paper and still leave you feeling unsteady in your everyday life.
Perhaps you are starting over in a new place, leaving a role that shaped your identity, navigating a relationship change, or adjusting to new responsibilities in your family. Even a welcome change can ask more of you than you expected.
You might feel hopeful and sad, relieved and uncertain, sometimes all in the same day. Familiar routines and relationships may look different, and it can take time to understand what you need now.
You do not need to turn the experience into a positive story before talking about it. There is room for the parts that feel difficult, unfinished, or unclear.

Make sense of change.
Find your next step.
We begin with your circumstances and how this transition feels for you. Together, we can explore what you want to carry forward, what needs attention, and where support may help.
Book a free consultationMake room for mixed feelings.
Talk about what you miss, what you welcome, and what feels uncertain. You do not have to choose one way to feel about a change.
Reconnect with what matters to you.
Explore your values, strengths, and sense of identity beyond a particular role or chapter. Consider which expectations are yours and which you may want to reconsider.
Find steadiness in everyday life.
Look at routines, relationships, boundaries, and practical supports that could help you through this period. We can consider what is realistic within your responsibilities and resources.
Explore the next step together.
Break an uncertain future into smaller questions and choices. There is room to try something, reflect on what you learn, and adjust as life unfolds.
Life transitions FAQ
A little more clarity
before you begin.
A few answers to help you consider the next step, at your own pace.
What kinds of life changes can I bring to therapy?
You can bring changes in work, relationships, home, family roles, or your sense of identity. That might include a move, a separation, parenthood, caregiving, retirement, or a decision you are still considering. We can discuss what support fits your situation.
Can I seek support for a change I chose?
Yes. Wanting a change does not mean every part of it will feel easy. You can be excited about what is ahead and miss parts of what came before. Therapy can offer space to talk about those mixed feelings without having to justify them.
What if I do not know what I want next?
You do not need a clear plan to begin. We can explore what matters to you, what feels uncertain, and which pressures are influencing your choices. There is room to consider possibilities without rushing into a decision.
Will my therapist tell me which decision to make?
The work is collaborative. Your therapist can help you reflect on your needs, values, options, and circumstances, while leaving the decisions about your life with you. Together, you can explore what a manageable next step might be.
What happens in the first session?
We begin with what has changed, what has been difficult, and what you hope might feel different. You can ask questions about the approach and share at a pace that feels comfortable. Then we can consider where to focus together.
Can I access this support virtually in Ontario?
Yes. Stoneglass offers virtual psychotherapy across Ontario. A free 15–20 minute phone consultation is a chance to discuss your needs, availability, fees, and whether virtual therapy is a good fit.
